We caught up with gA mountain biker Heather Rogers, who’s a regular on our Mountain Bike activities throughout the year…
“Why do I keep turning up, especially through the wet, cold & dark winter months? The weather is never as bad as you think it might be! What do they say, 'there's no such thing as the wrong weather, just the wrong clothes'. Mind you, I did get soaked to the skin on one ride earlier this year! I've ridden all year round for a long time as otherwise you quickly lose fitness/motivation. The Surrey Hills are pretty rideable in all conditions, which helps.

“With the support of the gA mountain bikers, I entered my first Enduro the other week, and lived to tell the tale! I would never have done that without the encouragement of the others and we had a lot of fun riding as a team. I can ride more technically difficult trails now, though always at my own steady pace!
“In terms of summer plans, I love bikepacking/journeying by bike and have done a few great trips already this year, including riding off-road from London to the Lake District, where I then joined a weekend gathering of 220 other female off-road riders. I have a couple of South Downs Way adventures coming up in July, including the inaugural gA SDW ride! I'm sure there will be more trips before the summer ends.
“Going forward, I just try to keep as fit and healthy as possible, mostly by turning my pedals as often as I can!”
